Most people have probably heard the term Pathogens some where in their walk of life.
Pathogens in biology is a term used for an organism that can produce disease. The term came into use in the late 1800's
So why is it important for us to understand and know about Pathogens. These organisms are microscopic in size and can't even be seen by the naked human eye. Now it is important to note that Pathogens can be infectious on many different levels and although in some cases it can cause minimal complications, the other side of the coin can actually be life threatening.
Pathogens has a variety of different ways it can enter the human host, mouth, eyes, nose, wounds or bites.
Now most of us actually know of common Pests that can carry these Pathogens and spread them to humans. Pests like Rats, Mice, Rodents, Cockroaches, Mosquitoes, Bedbugs and Fleas. There is however one tiny little Pest that gets overlooked when it comes to the spread of these Pathogens.
The tiny little Pest is not some far away creature found in a jungle, bushveld or on the equator. This tiny little Pest is found in our own backyards and they go about their work unnoticeable in most instances, it is only when their presence are starting to cause damage to our properties that we start paying attention, these Pests actually also carry Pathogens that could be very serious and they also have the ability to carry parasites like tapeworm.
The Pest we are referring to are ants, although they are most of the time unnoticed like bees, and many other insects that live all around us, they actually have the ability to carry bacteria and disease causing organisms like Streptococcus, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and E.coli. Some Ants carry germs that can be found in feces.
Now Ants do have their reasons for their existence. However, when these little Pests start damaging property and get into our homes, businesses and restaurants, then we need to act quickly to make sure that we control them in a safe and sufficient way, keeping in mind not to cause unnecessary harm to the ecosystem they find themselves in.
