Pest Control - why Rat Bite Fever is important to know about.

Rat Bite Fever is believed to have been first discovered in the mid 1800's in the U.S.A, although there are reports of these concerns being part of our societies for more than 2000years, but let's not spend to much time debating that point. So why though? Why should we be more aware today than we have been before, why are these concerns more in the limelight now. What has changed within our World that has made this a topic worth discussing? Is it just some more methods of madness to push more and more medical care unto people, is it a media frenzy that is created to sell more shares, be it through print or online or is there a real reason for this ever rising concern that is lying and waiting on the horizon to prey on its latest victim.

Pest control is recorded to have been founded in the late 1600's with rat control being one of the very first methods to be implemented, yes you heard right, rats was one of the very first creatures to become so problematic, so over populated within Urban and other human dwelling areas that Pest Control was started. Now I mentioned creatures becoming Pests, now I am not suggesting that these creatures weren't born to be Pests to begin with, but rather that due to reasons beyond their control, they have been forced to make themselves known on even a much larger scale.

Let's see if there are valid reasons, whether we want to argue them to be fair or not, but let's see what has brought about this massive shift, for a disease like rat bite fever to be of real concern. Now if we take into account that the World Population was only around a half a Billion people back then in the 1600's when Pest Control was founded and now estimated at 7.5 Billion People, it should not be hard for us to start understanding that the Urban spaces started growing tremendously at an alarming rate.

Now with the ever growing population and their need for accommodation, food establishments, schools, entertainment venues and many other amenities, the simple need for an ever growing modern society, the battle to explore and the yearning for a simpler life, has brought with it the destruction and disturbance of some very natural habitats. Some of these creatures whether you believe they were born Pests or you believe they were nurtured into a position of hate and disgust, started finding themselves being pushed further and further out. Now there is an argument that suggest that these creatures always hid out of sight but yet they were around, always looking, sniffing in the search of a meal and that the sudden growth and expansion of urban areas just gave them more opportunities to prey on left overs, rubbish, rubble. The human existence in itself started to now present a huge target and for some time left the back door wide open, but a lot of these points can be argued in many different ways.

Now the next thing that we should keep in mind is that the rat population world wide has also come along way. So although the human population could in previous centuries push these creatures out and force them to dwell in new areas, we don't have this luxury any more, the population of both human and rats has grown so much that the basic need of food supply has become more and more challenging. With taking just some of these points into account, we can see how rats, mice and rodents in general has grown to be seen more and more as Pests, doesn't matter on which side of the argument we find ourselves, both populations has increased in a huge way.

Rat Bite Fever has grown so much over the years that currently someone, somewhere in the world is bitten every 10-12 minutes. One in every 10 cases of people getting Rat Bite Fever succumb to the disease. So surely with these factors in mind we can see that although Rats has there reasons for existence, it has come down to a fight for survival and has made these creatures great Pests and has brought about it a reason for us to create more and more methods to control them.

Common Rat Bite Fever Symptoms include fever, vomiting, headache, muscle pain, joint pain or swelling and rash. The need for survival has increased with a ever growing population and with urban areas on the increase and the world itself not growing in space, we can see how huge this challenge has become. Keeping all of this in mind, with it comes so much more issues, but we will have to post about these concerns in a future post.
