Pest Control - Pests and why it is important for us to Control them?

Updated: Jan 17, 2022

Is Pest Control truly Important within our societies, surely these Pests has a designed purpose, a reason for being. Now in today's Post we are not necessarily going to venture to much down the information highway regarding the purpose of any Pests or the reason for their existence or so on and so forth.

I will say that everything has a designed purpose, yes we might not like the purpose or particularly enjoy their purpose, like a Bee Sting, I can't imagine anyone enjoying getting stung by a Bee, but these phenomenal creatures not only has a great purpose, they actually contribute to a great part of the human existence, but that is a Post for a different day and a different blog.

Importance of Pest Management

Is there really a need for Pest Control, does it contribute to us sustaining our way of life? Pest control provides protection from disease carrying pests and creatures that can cause public health issues and costly damages to property. When people hear Pest Management or Pest Control, they are typically thinking about the eradication of Cockroaches, Rats or Fleas.

The fact of the matter is that Pest Management or Control if you prefer the term is much more than just playing Cowboy with some pesticides and chemicals. Any Pest Management Controller that is worth his name will tell you that the last mentioned is merely part of a greater solution, rather than the A,b,c's of Pest Management. Actually, Pest Management is involved with the safety of our Health, our Foods and the protection of our Property. The Durban Coastline as an example, this includes Umhlanga, La Lucia, Durban North, Bluff, Amanzimtoti and Scottburgh, has a great population of both permanent and holiday residents, with heavy humidity and the subtropical climate, this coast line of Durban brings with it long hot summers and very mild winters. Perfect pest conditions.

Some Key Points to show the Importance of Pest Management Control.

Approximately 20% of the world’s food supply is consumed by rodents every single year, 20% in a ever starving world, this fact alone is so alarming that it should already have convinced you that Pest Management is of utmost importance, not convinced, read further.

Rodents are carriers for other dangerous Pests such as fleas, ticks, and mites, they carry diseases that are transmittable to humans and other animals. More than 45,000 people are bitten each year by rats leading to diseases like rat bite fever, salmonella, the plague and trichinosis. Rats, Rodents and Mice has not convinced you yet, how about this.

Cockroaches have allergens that many people, plus minus 8% of people are allergic to. Now 8% might not sound to harsh, but this amounts to over 600 000 000 people world wide.

According to recent studies: The third leading cause in a child’s asthma is the roach allergen! Cockroaches are considered to be among the filthiest insects in existence.

The Roach Allergy can cause hives and severe allergic conditions and reactions.

Pests has their purpose on this beautiful planet of ours, we might still discuss this in a post someday, but Pests needs to be controlled, kept in the right areas, excluded from our Homes, Offices, our Restaurants, Schools and Public social Spaces. If we do not control Pests, soon they will control us.
