Now this is an interesting question and definitely one that is up for debate but with an outcome that might not see a clear victor except maybe for the Bed Bug itself.
Now bed bugs are known to be species that are around and breed and is not something that develops out of some fungi or bacteria or anything like that. Bed Bugs actually lay eggs, a female can lay +-250 eggs in her 4-6 month lifetime, scary.
Now back to the question, after searching the history lines, the following seems to be an answer that could be very plausible, not only because most experts believe it is but because it sounds logical and fits in with both the destruction of Pest Natural Habitats and also with the relocation of Pests to survive.
So many experts put it down to this, that somewhere long long ago humans were exposed to Bed Bugs via bats in some pre civilization era where humans occupied caves and such. Maybe Fred Flintstone can tell us more Humans supposedly dwelled in caves with bats, imagine having that as your household pet and then when humans decided to move on, some of these bed bugs decided that they will follow with them.
Now similar to Bed Bug origins so is also the origin of the very first Pest Control, now there are some wild ideas of when this first started out there, but again there is one that really pops out, the first official Pest Control was recorded first in United Kingdom in the late 1600's and there first Pest Control was believed to be promoting Rat and Bed Bug Pest Control Services by H. Tiffin and Sons Ltd. in London.
How do they get into my home then?
Now although there has been some great advances made in Pest Control and modern society has come a long way from living in caves, we have at the same time been our own worst enemies by creating new ways for these Pests to survive and even our modern buildings has by default of creation created some of the greatest hiding spaces for these Pests.
These Pests enter homes from other infested areas, used furniture, luggage, bags, these Pest can travel from apartment to apartment in big buildings.
So make sure to always check items as thoroughly as possible before entering your home, especially if you where on holiday or visiting friends for a night over.
